| Digital picture frame viruses back for Christmas | | | |
| Purchasers of some models of Samsung digital picture frames received warnings earlier this week, following the discovery that a six-month-old computer virus had hitched a ride on the devices.
The file infecting virus, known as W32.Salty.AE, compromised version 1.08 of the Samsung Frame Manager software for Windows XP that comes preinstalled on some of Samsung's frames, according to an alert published earlier this month by the company. Some purchasers of the Samsung SPF-85H 8-Inch Digital Photo Frame from Amazon.com received a warning from the online retailer about the virus.

| Microsoft's music players die for a day | | | |
| Microsoft isolated on Wednesday the bug in its older Zune music players that had the devices crashing on December 31. The fix? Wait a day.
The bug occurred in the way that the clock driver of the older 30GB Zune music players handled leap year, Microsoft said in a statement on Wednesday. The software giant told its customers to have patience and perform a hard reset on the following day. On Thursday, reports on support forums had confirmed that most music players were returning to life.

| Microsoft kicks fake security software off 400,000 PCs | | | |
| In the second month of a campaign against fake security software, Microsoft Corp. has booted the rogue application "Antivirus 2009" from almost 400,000 PCs, the company recently claimed.
December's version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), a free utility that Microsoft pushes to Windows users as part of Patch Tuesday, targeted one of the most popular phony security app, Antivirus 2009. According to Microsoft, the MSRT erased the fake from over 394,000 PCs in the first nine days after it released this month's edition on Dec. 9.
